The 2008 Stevne will be held in Austin, Minnesota, and I am looking forward to seeing many of you at the Holiday Inn, which will be our headquarters.  As you will read in the Budstikken, we will have some different events this year.  Our memorial service will be at Bear Creek Lutheran Church, about 25 miles from Austin, on Thursday afternoon.  Andrea Een, who has performed at our Stevnes before, will be giving a short concert at the church, and we will have a tour of the church and grounds  where this interesting congregation first started in 1856.  We hope you can join us.  The members of the church are excited to have us visit them and want to serve us coffee and treats.  On Thursday evening we will have an ice cream social and get together which should be fun for everyone.

 

Linda McCormick from Borton Overseas will give the exciting plans for a unique trip experience planned by our friends in Valdres along with Linda.  The tour will take place in the Fall of 2009.  Even if you have or have never been on a Valdres trip to Norway, in either case, you won’t want to miss this one.

 

The very popular Doug Ohman will give an all-new slide presentation on Minnesota By-Ways.  Wow, Minnesota is 150 years old—of course there are places that are older (I think Trondheim claims 1009 years—who can argue that!)  He will give a program on historical perspectives of Minnesota.

 

Last year at the banquet with the Footnotes from Decorah playing wonderful dance music, we did not have a crowded floor!  So we have a professional dance instructor Saturday afternoon who can teach you (and I mean YOU) everything you need to know.  Saturday night will feature our Parade of Bunads as well as a very popular music group—Multe, from Northfield—for your listening and dancing pleasure.

 

We hope to see you participating in the activities at the Stevne and enjoying friends, both old and new.
