One of the most popular seminars at the 2006 stevne was given by Reidar Dittmann, a professor emeritus of art history and Norwegian at St. Olaf College. Dr. Dittmann described his experiences during World War II, including his participation in the resistance movement in German-occupied Norway, his time in Buchenwald Concentration Camp, and his liberation from the camp just one week before the end of the war. His seminar was titled “War: Imprisonment and Liberation.” Dittmann’s talk, although on a serious topic, was at times light and humorous. Particularly in the early part of his talk, Dittmann kept the audience laughing when he described his background and first experiences during the occupation. His descriptions of his life in the concentration camp were, of course, more serious and weighty. Aaron Hanson recorded the engaging presentation on video and the seminar is now available on DVD. The DVD, which includes the introduction to Dr. Dittmann by Howard Lerohl, runs 50 minutes. Note: The DVD is in the NTSC format, which plays in America and Canada, but is not widely available in Europe.
