PLANS FOR THE NORTH AURDAL BYGDEBOK

What's a Bygdebok?

The bygdebok project (history of the farms and families) started over ten years ago with four writers: Mona Dalen and Bjørn Gunnar Østgård as family genealogists, and Sonja Innselset and Ingar Ranheim as farm historians. Bygdeboks for the other five townships of Valdres have been available for a number of years.  The bygdebok for the most populous township, North Aurdal, has taken much more time.

Below is the planned schedule for publishing the North Aurdal bygdebok, with one volume each year. The first volume is at the printers, the others depend on future township funding.             

• 2005 Skrautvål parish (farms 1 – 17)  

 The Skrautvål volume covers the following original farms:

1. Meisdalen

2. Lyseng (Ljøseng)

3. Holdal

4. Ton (Thon)

5. Bundli

6. Bundli

7. Brattvål

8. Kjørli

9. Skrautvål

10. Bergheim

11. Berge

12. Gladheim (Glae)

13. Gigstad

14. Døvre

15. Skår

16. Sebu

17. Sebuødegarden

Each of these original farms includes many subfarms (småbruk) and tenant farms (husmannsplasser) not mentioned in the list above.

This is the proposed schedule for additional volumes of the North Aurdal bygdebok.  Watch this page for further information about actual publishing dates.

• 2007 Ulnes parish

• 2008 Svenes (Strand) parish

• 2009 Aurdal parish east side

• 2010 Aurdal parish (Vestringsbygda, Tisleidalen)
